If the last 15 years in US pol itics showed us anything, it is that what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
When Harry Reid nuked the filibuster with respect to judicial nominees, Republicans were able to push through their Supreme Court picks in such a fashion that enraged Democrats.
When President Obama bragged that he had "a pen and a phone" such that he could circumvent Congress on making his own legislation especially when it came to immigration, President Trump took that to another level with hundreds of executive orders.
Political brinksmanship only encourages the next player to take it up a level.
Thus we come to perhaps the most severe national security compromises in the history of the United States. The Friday leak of the audio recordings of the interviews with President Biden with Special Prosecutor Hur proved beyond any doubt that not only had the president's mental faculties diminished to such a degree that he could not finish his own sentences nor recall the dates of his own son's death, but that he possessed classified material in such a mass quantity littered in such a wide and dizzying array of locations, but was unable to be charged due to these diminished faculties. The implications are damning. President Biden was not fit to lead the country at that time, and there was no way that anyone who had access to the President did not see this obvious truth. The subsequent smearing of Hur, and clear facilitated cover-up of the non-compos-mentis of the Chief Executive of the United States and Commander-in-Chief set a precedent that has irrevocably shifted the goalposts in what is acceptable to be honest about when it comes to the American electorate by politicians and their staff.
And so it is with the most suspect of timings that only two days after this leak the former President's family has disclosed that he has late-stage prostate cancer.
It strains credulity to an unreasonable degree to take it face value that the most monitored patient on the planet with the highest standard of care had prostate cancer, a cancer that is relatively slow growing, that was only detected in the last few months at this advanced stage. It would have been the height of medical malpractice not to be testing an 80-year-old man of any degree of health for prostate cancer.
Even so, two questions must be asked, because The Innocent explanation and the less innocent but far more likely both pose incredible national security questions:
1. How did the President of the United States, at an advanced age and clearly in failing health have a slower moving cancer go completely undetected until stage 4?
2. If the most likely case is that this cancer was known for quite some time, the motives become grotesque, and the fallout severe. What is the purpose of covering up a cancer diagnosis? Surely to obtain office and retain it. Thus, who knew, where was he treated, and when was it diagnosed?
It goes without saying that this is a serious national security concern. Someone running for President at least once if not twice with cancer and keeping that hidden from the American people all while releasing doctors' statements that he was in perfect health, opens the door not only to charges of perjury on a massive scale, but of potential blackmail by malicious actors. Was his treatment being carried out outside of Washington, where he spent nearly 40% of his presidency? Who carried out the treatment and who swore them to secrecy about a serious national security concern?
President Biden and his family should rightly focus on recovery and treatment at this time. But American legislators have a job to do, and the American public have a responsibility to demand answers. This cannot go unanswered. This cannot happen again. It is imperative that a full accounting of what has taken place with respect to the President's health be given, unredacted to the American public. Transparency is the only answer here. Because if this is allowed to stand, if the American public swallows this as we essentially were to do with the President's mental faculties, then it becomes an acceptable part of the American political machinery, to hide critical information about the health of our elected officials from the public, exposing not only themselves but the nation to malicious actors who can take advantage of these efforts.
There will be a lot of calls from partisan actors on both sides to act in their own political interests. But it is not partisan whatsoever and only in the good interests of this nation going forward to have complete and transparent, full accountability for what took place during the Biden Presidency with respect to his health both cognitively and physically. Fool me once shame on you. But the American public should not and will not stand for being fooled again
